Florida-Bahamas Women of the ELCA approve 2012 Resolution

At the Fall Gathering/Convention of the Florida-Bahamas Synodical Women’s Organization (FL-BA SWO) held at Lake Yale on November 9 – 11, 2012, one resolution concerning the ELCA Malaria Campaign was presented and passed during the weekend business sessions.  Many of you were present during the presentation by Steve Beumer, Chair of the Synod Campaign, on Saturday morning when he shared information on how malaria can be controlled with our support.  In addition, Elaine Heine, our FL-BA SWO Vice President, shared some of her personal experiences and her passion on this topic during our Saturday evening activities.  To clarify our position and to spur us to action, here is the resolution that we as members of Women of the ELCA Congregational Units are strongly encouraged to support:

RESOLUTION TOPIC:  Malaria Campaign

WHEREAS:  More than 100 countries face a malaria epidemic worldwide, led by African nations,

AND WHEREAS:  The ELCA is joining organizations worldwide to wipe out malaria by 2015, with a malaria campaign throughout the Church,

AND WHEREAS:  Malaria claims the life of a child every 45 seconds but is both preventable and treatable,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:  The W/ELCA congregational Units (CU) of the Florida-Bahamas Synod dedicate themselves to the distribution of existing campaign literature and to the raising of funds for the campaign.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT:  This project will be kept both visible and on-going by our W/ELCA CU’s for the duration of the world-wide campaign (2015).

CONGREGATIONAL UNITS:  St. Stephen, Longwood Redeemer, Winter Park

CONFERENCE:  Heart of Florida
