2015 Resolution

RESOULTION 2015-1

A RESOLUTION OF THE FLORIDA-BAHAMAS

SYNODICAL WOMEN’S ORGANIZATION (FL-BA SWO) PERTAINING TO AWARDING SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

 

          WHEREAS, the Florida-Bahamas Synodical Women's Organization established a scholarship fund with the Fund for Leaders in Mission; and

          WHEREAS, our mission is to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ; and

          WHEREAS, according to the rules of the Fund for Leaders in Mission, the scholarship must be awarded to a student in the candidacy process, attending one of the eight ELCA seminaries and be either in the Master of Divinity (M. DIV) or Master of Arts (MA) program; or a student in an approved extension program of one of the ELCA seminaries and be enrolled in an approved program, such as the Theological Education for Emerging Ministries (TEEM) program; and

          WHEREAS,   it is important to foster leadership in our church; and

          BE IT RESOLVED BY THE FLORIDA-BAHAMAS SYNODICAL WOMEN'S ORGANIZATION:

  1. The application to be completed by students seeking the scholarship will be posted on the FL-BA SWO website with a submission deadline of December 15 each year.

  2. The scholarship shall be awarded by the decision of the FL-BA SWO board at their January board meeting using the following criteria:

  • A student in the candidacy process who meets the Fund for Leaders scholarship guidelines

  • Preference will be given to residents of the Florida-Bahamas Synod

  • Preference will be given to female applicants

  • Preference will be given to an active member of a congregational unit

  • The chosen applicant should exhibit faith qualities that empower others and demonstrate leadership qualities in the church and community

  1. The scholarship will be awarded in two increments (September and January) according to the rules of the Fund for Leaders in Mission.

  2. The selected candidate will be invited to attend the annual Fall Gathering of the FL-BA SWO. 

          This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
